Advice for owners
You don’t need to be selling to put me to work.
I work with owners by the hour on business decisions and the people involved. Bring me an opportunity, a recurring problem, or a question you need an honest answer to.
Tell me what’s happening, what you’ve tried, and what you want to change. I’ll tell you whether I can help.
Talk through the situationAn opportunity
It looks promising. What needs to be true?
A buyer has called. A customer could change the business. Someone has proposed a partnership. I look at the economics, the assumptions, and what the other person wants.
You get my view, the questions we still need answered, and what would change my mind.
The business and you
You want to step back. What will you hand over?
You may have hired people to take responsibility—and still find every decision coming back to you.
We look at what needs your involvement, who can take responsibility, and what would have to change for you to let them. Wanting more freedom and wanting the last word can pull in different directions.
The people involved
What’s the conversation nobody’s having?
A key employee wants more responsibility. You’re worried about keeping the people the company relies on. Two people agree in the meeting and pull in different directions afterward.
I want to understand what each person is concerned about and what the business needs from them. We work through the responsibilities, incentives, and conversations that could move things forward.
The decision ahead
What do you want from the business now?
Keep growing it. Take a different role. Consider a sale. Those choices ask different things of you and of the company.
We examine what each choice would require, including the parts you may be reluctant to face. Then we decide what to do next.
The assignment
Agree the work. Agree the fee. Get into it.
We agree the assignment, scope, and hourly fee before starting.
If the work calls for different expertise, I’ll tell you.
